The Hinge Centre

Opening doors of opportunity for everyone within our region

What is NightStop?

Nightstop is a project that runs throughout the East Riding of Yorkshire region offered by the charity SASH . The aim of the scheme is to prevent young people from becoming homeless by offering them a room in the home of a volunteer.

The volunteer hosts offer emergency overnight accommodation allowing the resettlement officer at the Hinge centre the chance to work with the young person to secure a more permanent solution.

The Hinge Centre acts as a referring agent for Nightstop and will fully support the young person through the process. If you would like to be considered for nightstop please ring the Hinge Centre and find out more details from one of our team members.

How does NightStop work?

Nightstop provides a safe bed on a short term basis in the homes of trained and approved volunteers who are called "hosts". The Nightstop service will need to know some information about you to make sure that it is the best option for you. The information you give will be treated in confidence.

How safe is it?

To ensure young people are kept safe, all volunteers involved with Nightstop are checked by the Criminal Records Bureau and the local Nightstop service, to make sure they are suitable to take young people into their own homes. If you do stay with a host you will have a bed for the night of your own, you will also be offered an evening meal, a chance to have a bath or shower and breakfast the next morning.

Where is the nearest NightStop?

The East Riding Nightstop project is run from the Hinge Centre in Bridlington.

You can ring the Nightstop service line direct on 01262 679671 and we will provide you with help and advice on how best to solve your accommodation problems.

Alternatively if you know of an organisation in your area e.g. Connexions, Youth Services, Housing or Children and Family Services or the police you could ask them to contact Nightstop on your behalf.

It may be possible for you to stay at a local Nightstop for a number of nights until a longer term solution can be found.
