The Hinge Centre Limited
Charity Number 1146714
Company Limited by Guarantee Number: 06507894
Opening doors of opportunity for the residents and young people of
Bridlington and Goole
In 1995 when the Hinge Centre began as a forum some ground rules were set.  The ground rules included respect for individuals and ownership of ones behaviour and responsibilities.  This ethos is still maintained at the Hinge and includes workers, young people, students and volunteers including the board of directors and any other individual associated with the charity.
Although it is recognised that each individual will have differing levels of responsibility in relation to their contributions to the Hinge, it is important to recognise that each contribution is of equal value to the whole.  The Hinge is a voluntary organisation, registered charity number 1146714 and company limited by guarantee number 06507894 forming the basis of its registered office in Goole and its sister centre in Bridlington which opened in September 2008.

We are a COMMUNITY FOCUSED charity providing support to the residents and young people living in Bridlington and Goole.

The Hinge operates an open door policy for anyone – any age – any issue. We pride ourselves on being able to provide direct support which is unavailable or has been refused from elsewhere.

Our centres provide cooking and laundry facilities, and IT suite, community drop in, employment skills training, life skills training, support for independent living, housing and benefits advice and in Bridlington a community centre for the residents and young people livening within the Havenfield Council estate and surrounding area.

Our centres are open 5 days a week between 9.30am and 4.30pm.  Our facility in Goole is on one level and consists of: receptions area, a shared open office space, 2 private offices, a computer suite including kitchen and all access toilet facilities.  Our facility in Bridlington is made up of two converted council semi-detached houses and incorporates a downstairs reception and toilet, open plan social area for sessions and meetings, a separate kitchen, staff kitchen and washing facilities.  The first floor has five offices, an IT training suite and staff kitchenette with separate toilet.

Our staff, volunteers and students advise, inform and support residents and young people within the communities of Goole and Bridlington as part of our "Chances for Life" project funding by the Big Lottery "Reaching Communities" fund.  The Hinge acts as a gateway to and works in partnership with all agencies related our service users individual needs.  Also on offer are basic needs training, resettlement workshops which incorporate budgeting skills, cookery and skills for life.  Computer courses compliment the free access to the internet encompassing employment skills and practical job skills training for all.

The Hinge is managed by a board of directors made up of a diversity of people with the common interest of promoting the general health and social well being of residents and young people living in Goole, Bridlington and surrounding areas.
Our principle of partnership and empowerment has enabled The Hinge Centre to secure a positive reputation within these two communities.
